There is really no place like home, especially when it comes to weddings. Traditional wedding venues can be costly and impersonal in comparison to having a wedding in your very own backyard. Every bride wants their wedding to be personal and unique. Divide your backyard into two spaces!

You will need to have two distinct areas. One space should be designated for the ceremony and another for the reception where food and drinks will be served. Pay careful attention to where the sun sets during the time of your ceremony. You don’t want your guests to be blinded by the sun when you are saying “I do.” This is also important to consider when you decide where to place your marquee. To help Mother Nature along, make sure your lawns are in good shape. Make sure your flowers have been planted in time so that they are in full bloom on the day of your wedding. 5. You will need one port-a-potty per every 35 guests.
6. Don’t forget about your neighbours, you may even want to invite them!

The average cost of a typical wedding is approximately $30,000. It is important to stick to a realistic budget. Unfortunately, there are a few hidden costs that can ruin your estimates. We love weddings here at Schupepe and given that we work side by side with many wedding vendors, we’ve decided to let you all in on a few industry secrets. Here are hidden wedding expenses to consider when planning your wedding budget.

BUDGET FOR BEAUTY

I’m sure you have already set aside money for your hair and makeup on the actual day of your wedding, but you will probably want at least one trial before the day itself. Don’t forget that you may want a mani/pedi or a spray tan as well. If you trust your beautician, then by all means, forego the trial, but if not, you could get the services done on the day of your engagement party, bridal shower, or hen’s night.

PAYING FOR POSTAGE & PAPER GOODS

You will be surprised just how much paper goods a wedding requires. Don’t use up all of your money on save-the-dates and invitations! You will need to think about menu cards, place cards, escort cards, thank you cards and programs. You are going to need postage for many of the things above as well! Skip the fancy stamps or bulky invitations and try to keep it simple.

ACCOUNT FOR ALTERATIONS

Most wedding dresses will not fit perfectly, which means that it will require some type of alteration. You may need the gown hemmed, taken in or let out, or adding straps, etc. Most stores don’t account for alterations in the wedding gown price, so you will need to make sure you have some extra money set aside for the seamstress. It is always best to ask ahead of time and if the store charges too much for alterations, take your wedding gown somewhere else to get altered.

OUT-OF-POCKET FOR OVERTIME

The majority of your vendors are getting paid for a specific amount of time. Don’t forget that you will get charged by the hour if your wedding runs over the allotted time. The great thing about having an outdoor marquee wedding is that there are no time limits as far as the venue is concerned; however, vendors such as DJ’s, photographers, and videographers will expect to get paid for their time. It is best to be aware of these costs ahead of time and find out if they expect to get paid on the spot!
